Subject: Request for CMC Vote re CSS Deputy Area Director at upcoming CMC meeting

Dear CMC Chair,

As noted in the copied email below, the CSS Area is in need of a new CSS Deputy Area Director.  In response to my email of April 8, ESA has proposed Mr. Holger Dreihahn for this role.  No other agency has proposed a candidate.  I would like to request that the CMC vote on confirming Mr. Dreihahn as the next CSS Deputy Area Director.  I realize that it is the CMC that confirms CCSDS Area Directors and Deputy Directors but I will note that Mr. Dreihahn as done an excellent job chairing the CSS CSTS WG, that I believe Mr. Dreihahn to be exceptionally well qualified, and that I would very much look forward to working with him as the CSS Area Deputy Director.  I believe that the ESA Head of Delegation and CMC member, Mr. Nicolas Bobrinsky, has already provided Mr. Dreihahn’s brief bio, but I have also attached it to this email for reference.

Subject: Request for nominees, CSS Deputy Area Director

Dear CMC Colleagues,

I have the rather unfortunate duty to inform you that the current CSS Area Deputy Area Director, Colin Haddow, will be retiring and stepping down at the end of the Spring 2022 meetings.   Colin has done truly excellent work in CCSDS and I shall miss him.

This means that there will soon be a vacancy with regard to the CSS Deputy Area Director.  Therefore I hereby respectfully request nominations for a suitable candidate from the CMC.  If possible, nominations by May 2, 2022 will be much appreciated.  The technical goals of the CSS Area can be found here:  https://cwe.ccsds.org/fm/sp/Lists/CSSContent/AllItems.aspx .  The duties of an Deputy Area Directory are described in here: https://public.ccsds.org/Pubs/A02x1y4c2.pdf , section 2.3.2.4.4.
