CESG E-Poll Identifier: CESG-P-2020-04-001
Approval to publish CCSDS 130.1-G-3, TM
Synchronization and Channel Coding—Summary of
Concept and Rationale (Green Book, Issue 3)
Results of CESG poll beginning 30 April 2020 and ending 14 May 2020:

                 Abstain: 1 (25%) (Merri)
Approve Unconditionally: 3 (75%) (Burleigh, Calzolari, Wilmot)
Approve with Conditions: 0 (0%) Disapprove with Comment: 0 (0%)
CONDITIONS/COMMENTS:

     Scott Burleigh (Approve Unconditionally): Nits:

1. The 3rd paragraph of 1.3 refers to "the four
classes of codes considered" but lists five.

2. Shouldn't LDPC be included in Figure 2-2?

     Jonathan Wilmot (Approve
Unconditionally): Not a condition, but consider
updating some of the 2.1 Introduction to not
scare off the younger
engineers. "microprocessor-based hardware will
result" sounds dated. Microprocessors are common
with FPGA science data systems pushing into the
gigabits. Similar comments apply to other
paragraphs and to Figure 2-1. Mission
applications send operational data, video,
software uploads, configuration, not just "A
METHOD TO INVESTIGATE PHYSICAL PHENOMENA BY USING
THEIR INSTRUMENTS IN SPACE" None of this is a
real issue with the technical content.

CONDITIONS/COMMENTS:

Jonathan Wilmot (Approve with Conditions): SANA registry link is broken

https://sanaregistry.org/r/ndmxml/ndmxml-1.0-tdm-2.0.xsd

This seems to be a common problem with CCSDS
books, is there a better way to deal with links?

CONDITIONS/COMMENTS:

     Gian Paolo Calzolari (Approve with
Conditions): In C2 SANA CONSIDERATIONS change FROM
(*****) A null checksum. If used, the file checksum value shall be set to 0x00.
TO
(*****) A null checksum. If used, the file
checksum value shall be set to 0x00 as per clause 4.2.2.4

In fact the document defines
4.2.2.4 The null checksum algorithm (identified
by checksum type 15) shall be implemented. The
null checksum algorithm shall be simply to set
the value of the checksum to zero.
-----------------------------------
Registry https://sanaregistry.org/r/checksum_identifiers is not finalized
1) references to [ccsds-727.0-B-4] shall be
replaced by reference to Issue 5 (I guess this
should be automatic but better remarking).
2) the reference for value 15 NULL shall be to this document clause 4.2.2.4
3) link for value 3 CRC-32 has a broven link to
[text-IEEE Standard for Ethernet] -->
https://sanaregistry.org/r/references/records/202
4) for item #1 link shall be to latest document
CCSDS 211.2-B-3 (BTW, the current link [ccsds-211.2-B-2] is a broken link)
