413.1-G-1, Simultaneous Transmission of GMSK Telemetry and PN Ranging
(Green Book, Issue 1)
Results of CESG poll beginning 14 April 2017 and ending 28 April 2017:
Abstain: 3 (37.5%) (Merri, Behal, Wilmot)
Approve Unconditionally: 4 (50%) (Barkley, Shames, Cola, Moury)

CONDITIONS/COMMENTS:
Gian Paolo Calzolari (Approve with Conditions): After WG discussion
and confirmation, add one additional stand-alone section to the GB as
for instance a new section 3.4.5, plus one more reference paper (the
title of the relevant San Antonio input):
3.4 Telemetry and ranging performance 3-12
3.4.1 Telemetry performance 3-12
3.4.2 Ranging performance 3-19
3.4.3 Summary for the reference case 3-28
3.4.4 Link budget examples 3-29

3.4.5 Improved performances
The performances of sections 3.4.1-3.4.4 are based on a rather simple
and therefore suboptimal demodulator as illustrated in figure 3-3.
Such scheme just demodulates the telemetry symbol stream, remodulates
and removes it from the composite receive signal prior to ranging demodulation.
Significant improvements can be obtained by performing also symbol
decoding down to bit level followed by encoding and remodulation. The
major drawback of this scheme is complexity and some delay in
obtaining the ranging signal. The latter may not be important since
normally telemetry transmission starts at the beginning of the pass
while ranging is initiated at a later stage.
An alternative from a complexity and performance point of view is to
also remove the ranging signal prior to telemetry demodulation as in
figure X-X (NEW FIGURE).
........ Text copied from input paper includes some equations, the
new figure X-X mentioned above and a number of tables.
