The following draft CCSDS Recommended Standard has been placed on
line for CCSDS Agency review:

DOCUMENT DESCRIPTION: This Recommendation defines a source-coding
data-compression algorithm and specifies how data compressed using
the algorithm are inserted into source packets for retrieval and
decoding. This draft update
- increases the allowed values of block length J from {8, 16} to {8,
16, 32, 64};
- increases the maximum allowed value of the reference sample
interval r from 256 to 4096;
- allows the use of a restricted set of code options;
- defines a new subfield of the Source Configuration Field of the
optional Compression Identification packet;
- adds guidance for selection of code option when two or more code
options gave the same performance for a block;
- clarifies that the ID bits are to be included when selecting the
coding option for a block;
- updates nomenclature subsection;
- clarifies some text;
- adds a dedication to Warner Miller.
The due date for receipt of review comments by the Review Coordinator
is 2011-11-21. Area Directors and WG/BOF Chairs may submit review
comments directly to the CCSDS Review Coordinator. More information

1 Per CMC Action Item CMC-A-2007-10-05, agency reviewers are reminded to
review for compliance with the CCSDS Publications Manual as well as
technical content.
2 Per CESG Resolution CESG-R-2008-10-006, the CESG no longer conducts
pre-Agency-review reviews but is instead expected to participate in
Agency reviews when they are announced.
