CESG E-Poll Identifier: CESG-P-2009-01-001 Final Blue Approval of CCSDS
414.1, Pseudo-Noise (PN) Ranging Systems
Results of CESG poll beginning 12 January 2009 and ending 22 January 2009:
Abstain: 0 (0%)
Approve Unconditionally: 2 (50%) (Gerner, Moury)
Approve with Conditions: 2 (50%) (Shames, Barkley)
Disapprove with Comment: 0 (0%)
CONDITIONS/COMMENTS:
Peter Shames (Approve with Conditions): A series of security
issues were discussed within the WG and they decided that there was not
a credible threat from jamming and/or that spoofing could be detected.
However, none of this is reflected in the document and it must be
captured in the security section.
Require that the WG Chair provide updated text that adequately addresses
these topics and the discussions from the WG within the Security Sec 5
of the document.
Erik Barkley (Approve with Conditions): Note that due to poll
response choices, I am marking this approve with conditions to provide
comments; from my perspective no further action is required to release
this as a Blue Book.
Comments:
For future efforts, for the purposes of facilitating subsequent
recommendations in relation to management of PN Ranging systems, an
informative annex indicating the key managed parameters and any
supporting information that is reasonably possible to state such as
their frequency of change with respect to typical operational scenarios
would be useful for the CSS Area in developing related cross-support
recommendations. For example, the recommended chip rates are stated; do
these often change in the life a mission? Can anything be stated about
the variance of integration times over the life of a mission? If so,
how often does it vary?
