CSC Joins SpaceOps Committee-at-Large

At its December 2005 meeting, the Executive Committee of the SpaceOps
Organization accepted Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) as an
industrial member of the Committee-at-Large.
Founded in 1959, CSC is a leading global information technology (IT)

SpaceOps 2006 Conference

Plan to participate in the forum for space operators. Register by 19 May
to take advantage of the early registration discount!
The SpaceOps 2006 Conference will bring together experts from around the
world to discuss state-of-the-art operations principles, methods, and
tools in addition to the future direction of space operations. Focusing
on the theme of "Earth, Moon, Mars, and Beyond," this event will allow
for the investigation of space operations in a variety of environments,
both near and far.
SpaceOps 2006 is expected to attract approximately 600 commercial and
government space operators from around the world. Attendees will also
include engineers, technical experts, business managers, marketers, end
users, scientists and other professionals from space agencies, academic
institutions, and industry, who are working in, or involved with, space
mission operations and ground data systems.
The technical program will highlight the activities and challenges
within the operations field. The Opening Session will feature space

SpaceOps Organization Announces New Awards
The SpaceOps Executive Committee and Committee-at-Large have approved
the establishment of an awards and recognition program for the SpaceOps
Organization. The initial awards will include:
International SpaceOps Award for Outstanding Achievement
This award is presented for outstanding efforts in overcoming space
operations and/or support challenges, and recognizes those teams or
individuals whose exceptional contributions were critical to the success
of a space mission. The award specifically covers the following
categories of achievement:
* Critical to an anomaly recovery, crew rescue, or saving of a
space mission.
* Development of a new paradigm that has significant effect on the
space operations field.
* Instrumental in significantly reducing the cost of space
operations.
International Space Ops Distinguished Service Medal
This award is presented to give unique recognition to an individual
member of the international space operations community who has
distinguished himself or herself with service to the SpaceOps
Organization or to the field of space operations and support. The
recipient shall be an individual who has shown particular dedication to
the interests of the organization or space ops field by making
significant and continuing contributions over an extended period of
time.
Best Paper of Symposium
This award is to recognize the most outstanding paper of the SpaceOps
symposium. The paper should be exceptional in technical content, have an
important impact on the field of space operations, or report on
important historical events that are of importance to the community. The
quality of the written presentation may be considered. The award will be
based on review of the final versions of the submitted papers and not on
the presentations at the symposium. The award will consist of a
certificate given to each of the paper's authors.
The first SpaceOps awards will be presented at SpaceOps 2006, which will
occur 19-23 June 2006 in Rome, Italy. In the future, nominations for
these awards will be accepted through the SpaceOps web site. [more info]

Standards Activities
Annual ISO TC20/SC14 Meeting
The 16th Annual Meeting of ISO TC20/SC14 on standardization for space
systems and operations will take place 15-20 May 2006 in Colorado
Springs, Colorado. The first three days will consist of working group
meetings bringing technical experts from 11 different nations together
to discuss many standardization topics. The last two days will be the
SC14 Plenary meeting.
