There are a number of people that say don’t modify the link layer protocols just for security. Well, there are other reasons to upgrade at least the AOS service. I have attached my presentation on that topic. I can only say that these are old protocols and there are upcoming missions that need new services that are not provided in AOS. For TC an insert service or secondary header service may suffice but a dynamic inclusion or modification of the security header requires a secondary header that is announced in the primary header and delimited by length in the secondary header.
Gilles. Just to let you know, I have to leave by 3:00PM tomorrow and not be able to attend on Friday because I will be leading the Time Correlation and Sync BOF on Friday. IF I can present my Security material before then I will gladly do so.
I have concluded that since the probability of providing cross support Cryptographic service is infinitesimal the exact structure for of the header is secondary and can be managed by an agency or mission as desired. The major benefit for having a managed structure is commonality of implementation. The tests that need to be provided for this book will be associated with the provision of cross services that can be accommodated when the cryptographic process is performed by the user and cross support process are provided by multi-mission services.
