The Global Precipitation Measurement Mission (GPM) was originally a
Goddard Space Flight Center in-house spacecraft development. The
plans were to use CCSDS packets over IP and CFDP for the communications
links. The project has since been changed to no longer be in-house
and will now no longer be an IP spacecraft. The attached documents
can still be used as a starting point to discuss how a LEO Earth Science
mission could/should use IP.

A description of the two attached files in the zip attachment (rename
.wasazip back to .zip):

GPMCore_RSDO_OCD_072604
(MS Word): This is the Ops concept document for the Core
spacecraft, section 3.1 provides an overview of how we were planning to
implement IP-in-space for GPM (and reflects the latest concept we had
before we pulled the plug on IP).

GPM Core SC S-to-G ICD Draft two (MS word): This is the
draft of an ICD we developed between the Ground segment/MOC and the Core
spacecraft defining the formats/protocols to be used for return and
forward link communications. ICD was specific to
"in-house" Core spacecraft development, and reflects most
recent GPM IP-in-space concept before switchover to
CCSDS.

The LPT CANDOS experiment flew on the Shuttle on STS-107. One of
the main experiments was the use of IP. A couple of papers are also
attached on this subject. More information can also be found
towards the bottom of this link:

various other documents and presentations summarizing past work at
GSFC.

I'm sorry about filling up people's e-mailboxes with various
documents. Don't worry, these are the last I currently plan to
forward.
