Hi Fred,

Ok. I’ll reschedule the next meeting for the 17’th. I assume that will work ok for the rest of the crew … right?

I’m really glad you talked to Kei and got things sorted out. I think that’s an important step.

I’m not just OK with you taking the approach of using the Ref Arch, I think that’s just what is needed. I’m also ok with the “loose on discipline” part, if what you create using this framework works for your community then we have a winner.

I do, of course, have one bit of feedback about how you name various views and what is included in them. My suggestion is to always take a step back from any view you create and ask yourself “What is the essential nature of the things
I am representing and is the terminology consistent with the viewpoint?” As an example, look at slide 8 in the TSAF RAS tutorial. I think it’s an OV-1 and shows operations and activities, and not “functions”, per se. I like the pg 12 “TSAF” chart a lot,
but on pg 10 I’m really not sure just what the message is. Is it a start on an OOS chart by highlighting which of the viewpoints will be relevant? If so, I get it.

In the Solar Array slides I made some edits to slide 9 to better (in my humble opinion) reflect the different viewpoint aspects that might appear. On slide 10 I think this is really Operational View stuff, not Functional. I also think
that the first three items, which can be treated as “Operational” activities, really belong in that elusive “Engineering Viewpoint” that we chose not to explicitly include.

Of course, feel free to ignore this stuff. Won’t hurt my feelings.

Let's go with the 17th.

Attached is my talking presentation for Solar Arrays with Kei. Also attached is a draft of a tutorial for SC14 people on how to use a reference architecture. I call it something else. I used the exemplar method from the tutorial in talking
with Kei. That seemed to work for him. These are rather loose on discipline but successfully got us to start discussing "how" to implement instead of if this is needed at all.

You'll note that a tutorial on how to use a reference architecture for space does not target architects or modelers. It targets people who need use, not create or maintain, the framework for some purpose. In SC14 I plan to "use"
the RAS(DS++) for two purposes. 1) talk with the member countries about what is in scope for SC14 work planning (what standards do we need for HSF, OOS, Small Sats, Supp;y Chain, etc.). This will be a very top level multi-year discussion. 2) Talk with the
working group Convenors about how assignments to the WGs cover the waterfront; when they can act quasi-independently and when they need to collaborate (internally to SC14 or externally). This latter part is where we will need to get into some detail on viewpoint
objects and correspondences.
