Dear David,

Many thanks. Indeed I find this very useful as well. It helps a lot to keep up to date with the developments in the WG.

Cheers,
Daniel

Subject: Simple Report on Nav WG books / Jun 2023

Daniel/Marc:

Here is the "simple report" on Nav WG projects in progress as of our 07-Jun-2023 telecon. Overall progress is very good. (Note for Daniel: these post-telecon reports were initiated several years ago at the request of Mario, and when I saw Marc at Huntsville he told me that he finds them useful and that I should continue.)

502.0 Orbit Data Message (ODM V.3): No discussion in this meeting... the ODM V.3 was published just prior to the Spring Meetings at Huntsville.

503.0 Tracking Data Message (TDM V.3): We spent nearly 2 full days of TDM discussion at the Spring 2023 Meetings. A second Pink Book draft is anticipated by end of June. The Lead Editor and I have a meeting planned with the CSS AD to discuss and hopefully resolve a potential conflict with one of their standards.

504.0 Attitude Data Messages (ADM V.2): Prototype testing has been completed. Remaining work includes updating and finalizing the Test Report and applying some changes to the Pink Book to address changes necessitated by test results. Test participants were CNES, NASA/GSFC, NASA/JPL, Thales Alenia Space, and GMV. There is one area of incompatibility between KVN and XML formats that was reported last time has been resolved. We expect to send you by end of June/early July the artifacts required in order for the AD Review and Resolution to request "Approval to Publish" polls.

505.0 Navigation Data Messages XML Specification (NDM/XML V.3, V.4): Version 3 of the document was published just prior to the Spring Meetings. The V.4 schemas that accommodate the ADM V.2 changes have been completed, posted to the "nav beta" SANA Registry, and were used in the ADM V.2 testing (3 separate testers: Thales Alenia Space, GMV, and NASA/JPL). Next up: The NDM/XML V.4 document is nearly ready for Secretariat Document Processing. The V.4 primarily removes obsolete material related to the ADM V.1 which is about to transition to Silver status. In the near future we plan to submit the draft document and request the Area Director Resolution to commence the CESG/CMC "Approval for Agency Review" polls.

507.0 Navigation Events Message (NEM V.1): Distribution of the first NEM White Book has been further delayed due to the fact that the NEM has the same Lead Editor as the ADM Version 2 update, which has higher priority.

508.0 Conjunction Data Message (CDM V.2): Internal review of Pink Book P1.0.4 continues but has been delayed by other working group activities. The consensus of the group is that this version of the Pink Book is nearly ready for Agency Review. The Lead Editor will be on leave for the next 3 weeks; progress will continue upon his return. We anticipate before end of summer being able to request the Area Director Resolution to commence the CESG/CMC "Approval for Agency Review" polls.

509.0 Pointing Request Message (PRM V.1): A draft of Corrigenda requested by the MOIMS/MP WG has been prepared and reviewed by the WG. Next steps: reviews by cognizant users. We anticipate being able to submit the Corrigenda for CESG/CMC polling by mid-July.

5xx.0 Launch Data Message (number to be assigned): Was not discussed in this telecon except to provide status on the proposed new project. The CMC "New Project" poll concluded with a rejection, but after finding a different agency to prototype and subsequent discussion, the one rejection vote was changed so the project proposal was adopted.

Recently published standards/other documents with no action necessary: 500.0 Navigation Data - Definitions and Conventions Green Book (V.4), 500.2 Navigation Data Messages Overview Green Book, 508.1 Re-Entry Data Message (RDM V.1).

Regards,
David
