<h1><b><a name="_Toc122813644"></a>Five-Year Review of
Documents</b></h1> <br>
A message included below was sent by the MOIMS Area Director asking the
DAI and IPR Working Groups to evaluate the following documents.

Each document was considered separately. In summary the resulting
determination was that all the Blue Books (except EAST v2) should be
reconfirmed for five years. (Note: Further discussion resulted in a
decision to reconfirm Control Authority books for only three
years.) EAST v2 is in the process of being updated. A new
CCSDS Standard has been approved and there have been some problems with
the final publication process. If the update has not already been
forwarded to ISO, it should be. <br>
<br>
All books should normally be reconfirmed for five years. We
currently have no plans for updates to any of these documents.
<br>
<br>
Even if we did plan on updating a document or if we later decide to do an
update during the five year period, we can always work on the
update. When we complete the update, we simply petition the CESG
and CMC to update the book at that time.<br>
<br>
Only possible reason to reconfirm for a period shorter than five years
would be if we had active plans to update a document and had already set
a schedule that had a completion date for the final ISO standard within
that five year time frame. However even then it doesn't make much
sense since we could run into schedule delays. And we could still
simply petition the CESG and CMC to update the document status when we
completed our work at any time within the five year period. So
reconfirming a document for anything less than five years simply results
in the possibility of more book keeping and unnecessary reconsideration
of documents by WGs, CESG, and CMC for very little benefit. <br>
<br>
CCSDS 642.1-G-, <i>Language Usage in Information Interchange Tutorial</i>
should be withdrawn. Although it is probably still fundamentally sound,
the discussion and vocabulary used are becoming dated.<br>
<br>
All of the other Green Books should be reconfirmed for 5 years.<br>
<br>
It was also noted that in addition to reconfirming PVL we should consider
registering PVL as a mime type.<br>
