The tricky point is that JSON must be text (actually UTF-8) for interchanges between different systems (<a href="https://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/pdfrfc/rfc8259.txt.pdf">https://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/pdfrfc/rfc8259.txt.pdf</a>), so binary files must be encoded appropriately.
