Hi, Mike,
I'm happy to fill you in with what I know. I'm wasn't as active
this year as I've been in the past, but I've been a participant to
one degree or another since 2006.

The Ontology Summit has been an annual activity for about 12
years. Their current home page is here.
The Summit is open to anyone and is an open process that generally
starts in the fall of the preceding year with preliminary online
meetings to determine the main theme for the following year's
activities. In general, the actual summit starts in late January
or early February, with weekly online meetings to explore the
summit's theme for the year. After several weeks, a synthesis is
created and documented, which eventually leads to the preparation
of the Summit's Communiqué.

In late April, or early May, there's a two day face-to-face
symposium, somewhere in the DC area, where the Communiqué is
reviewed, and other findings and conclusions are discussed. After
the communiqué is completed, the summit organizers send it around
to participants and other interested parties for their
endorsements, after which it's published (in recent years, on the
Osummit website and in the IAOA
proceedings).

The 2016 Communiqué is still being reviewed by Summit
participants, but the website contains URLs (IRIs?) for all of the
preceding Communiqués, as well as all of the work products from
this year's summit. Each week's Summit session usually includes
some presentations on a specific facet of the Summit's theme.
All sessions are recorded, with the discussions being augmented by
a parallel text chat dialogue, that's captured and available with
the voice recordings.

I'd suggest you start by perusing the Communiqués from past
years.

Regards,
Terry

Hi Terry

I'm not familiar with this activity but would like to hear your
thoughts on the outcome of the summit. I like the concept of
ontologies for interoperability but have yet to see any working
examples.

Thanks, Mike
