Dear Daniel,

You are welcome for the slides. I am glad we could come to some closure on how to tie all of our various standards together into one, more or less coherent, story.

I do appreciate where you are coming from with this request, but I do not feel completely comfortable with accommodating it, for a few reasons:

1. The figures used are sourced, and cited, as being from the SCCS-ARD (901x1m1). As such this document covers SLS, SIS, CSS, and SEA, but not MOIMS and SOIS. Those two are covered in the separate ASL ADD (371x0g1).
2. There are elements shown in those figures that are labelled “Space File Application”. Those might be MOIMS or other mission specific Applications. They might also be SIS Voice and Video applications that are not otherwise called out. The logic for this is that these application layer services are above the network layer and not detailed in the cited spec.
3. As far as I know there are not yet any MO applications that are actually fully specified as end-to-end services. I do know that this is an ambition of MOIMS, but I do not think that there is anything I could cite right now, aside from the very abstract MO MCS (522x1B1) that defines a set of abstract interactions, but no specific application service. This is akin to having the CSS CSTS Service Framework (921x1b2), but no FF-CSTS, MD-CSTS, or TD-CSTS concrete services.
4. In the interest of time and space I also left out D-DOR, standard range and Doppler, and other application layer and ancillary services. CSS as a whole is given pretty short shrift, but it is in there in SLE & CSTS, SM is not, nor is Nav for that matter.

What I propose to do, in the context of those SCCS-ARD diagrams, is to point out that there is a variety of Space File (packet, stream) Application services that might be used, including those from SIS and MOIMS as well as other standard (CFDP, AMS) and bespoke services.

I hope that is satisfactory.

Best regards, Peter

Dear Peter,

Thanks for the slides.

I just have one comment:
You have illustrated (almost) every possible CCSDS protocol or standard in your diagrams. Although you may personally disagree, for fairness reasons, please include also CCSDS MO as application layer end-to-end service in at least one of the diagrams. I am happy to provide you with an updated viewgraph if you agree.

Kind Regards,
Daniel

Dear CESG ADs,

Attached is what I think could be the final version of the LIF charts from SEA.

I incorporated the CCSDS “organogram” from Ignacio. I don’t think it looks a whole lot different when it is shrunk to fit, but I did put all of our names and Areas into the larger text on the side.

Picking up on Erik’s “logo” suggestion I offer up yet another scaling of the logos on the front page. This “looks more balanced” to my discerning eye, but heck, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I also fixed one missing reference in the document tables. If you all agree that we should put these tables of documents into the body of the file I am fine with that, but I do not intend to talk to it except in the most cursory way. For the architectural overview that I am trying to convey to the audience I think the diagrams will work much better.

Open to feedback.

Cheers, Peter

Dear CESG ADs (and team),

Based on this morning’s discussion I used the cover slide and template that Ignazio provided, copied over the materials I had prepared, and then added the “animated” version of the Kearney slide and the CCSDS “organo-gram” as a CCSDS overview / intro. This expands the amount of time I’ll take at the front, but I promise to be brief and not drone on about boring old architecture. 🤭

I also followed Erik’s suggestion and added two pages with tables of SEA standards that can be slipped into the backup materials in the distributed, integrated, slide deck.

I believe that the agreement is for all the other Areas to use the “static” version of the Kearney slide and to paste on an overlay to show how your standards fit into the overall architecture. I put that static version in the backup too. I believe that all of the Areas & WGs are corrected on that chart, but you might check.

Cheers, Peter
