CSS-R-2023-10-001, Resolution for Retirement of CROSS SUPPORT REFERENCE MODEL-
PART 1: SPACE LINK EXTENSION SERVICES (CCSDS 910.4)

The CSS Area,

CONSIDERING that due diligence has been performed regarding a potential 5-year update of CROSS SUPPORT REFERENCE MODEL- PART 1: SPACE LINK EXTENSION SERVICES (CCSDS 910.4; herein referred to as the "SLE Reference Model" or SRM);

and ALSO CONSIDERING that the due diligence included surveying all the changes necessary given the recommendation's last publication in 2005;

and RECOGNIZING that there are significant differences in today's reality versus the projections stated in the SLE Reference Model, including but not limited to

  1.  several SLE services are indicated that will never be created,
  2.  the Forward Space Packet SLE service standard has in fact seen no real world implementation and has itself been retired;

and ALSO RECOGNIZING that the  Cross Support Architecture Description Document and Requirements documents (CCSDS 901.0-G-1 and CCSDS 901.1-M-1 respectively) in fact offer a significantly more comprehensive and more contemporary survey of cross support services than that stated in the SRM;

and TAKING INTO ACCOUNT that CCSDS is obligating itself to maintain and ensure that the SRM and  the Cross Support Architecture Documents (CCSDS 901.0 and CSSDS 901.1) are maintained for consistency offering in return no material benefit;

RESOLVES to retire the SRM;

And REQUESTS that the CCSDS Secretariat initiate the procedure for classifying 910.4 as a CCSDS Silver Book.
