[CESG] [EXTERNAL] RE: CCSDS Liaison agencies and ISO OIDs

Dear Nick, Paul, Steve, and Mike,

I was just digging (again) into the status of the CCSDS / TC20/SC14 liaison and found this message from Nick dated 1 Nov 2019.  Unless there has been further communications I have overlooked it seems that this is where we stand.  I would like to get this moved forward for a couple of reasons:

  1.  It's well past time that we have something formal in writing describing the liaison relationship between these two organizations.
  2.  The CCSDS Systems Engineering Area (SEA), in the Systems Architecture Working Group (SAWG) is getting ready to take up revisions of the Reference Architecture for Space Data Systems.

I think we Can one of you please tell me what we need to do in order to move ahead?   As far as I can tell we have substantial agreement on what we wish to do, and it appears, based on what Nick says, that the liaison PoCs have been identified.   I think the next steps are to ratify the agreement and then start holding some cross-fertilization TIMs.

What are the next steps from your points of view?

Hi Peter,

There are actually two PoCs from SC14 for the liaison with CCSDS: Fred Slane and Dan Oltrogge. Unofficially, we placed the CMC chair as the PoC from the CCSDS side: Stephen Townes.

Regarding the agreement, SC14 will need to review the revised language. I have copied the SC14 Chair, Paul Gill (NASA), so that he is aware of the situation.

Thanks Nick.  Symmetry in all things.  Glad to see that SC14 is ahead of the curve.  Do we know who the SC14 liaison contact might be?

Also, while I have your attention, we are working a minor revision of the SC13 / SC14 liaison agreement through the CCSDS processes.  This is to spell out the work to develop two new LAWIs.  The CMC was reluctant to agree to the ones we had stated and wanted instead to specify that an ad hoc WG would develop the text for these, one re reference architecture and one re glossaries.  Does that comport with your understanding, or do you think this is already a done deal?

Agreed on the liaison listing of SC13 and SC14. SC14 already has CCSDS listed as a liaison (I believe so does SC13) on the ISO website. I think this just needs confirmation from CCSDS/CMC concerning the listing on the CCSDS site but I can’t recall what the process is for such confirmation.

I was just working on an issue in regard some of our registry entries.  So that had me poking about in the ISO OIDs that were originally adopted in CSS area and now are very widely used in the Registry Management Policy (RMP), CCSDS 131.1-Y-1.  The CCSDS base OID, as documented in the RMP and elsewhere, is 1.3.112.4.  See RMP, sec 3.4.8.20.

So I went to this URL, which had been used before, and it worked. I believe that this used to work and that it took us to the CCSDS registries in SANA.  See attached screen shots.  There is a process for registering other OID sub-registries.  Would someone please look into this with this ISO OID registry and get this hooked back up so that it works correctly?   I assume that is a Secretariat function, if not that perhaps it is directly something that the SANA Operator can manage as the CCSDS registrar?

Since we have active relationships with both of these organizations, I think that we should have links for them, and contacts, in our Liaison list.  I think this is a Secretariat action and that not having them listed is just an oversight.
