Just a reminder that you have until Feb 24, 2020 to get your documents in to Jürgen (<a href="mailto:juergen@omg.org" class="">juergen@omg.org</a>), if you want them to be available for:<br class=""><br class=""><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span>- Being voted on by your group to be sent to the Architecture Board (a Vote to Vote)<br class=""><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span>- Going before the Architecture Board<br class=""><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span>- Going before the relevant Technical Committee<br class=""><br class=""><br class=""><br class="">While I have your attention, we need to talk. There’s been a recent uptick in the need for Jürgen Boldt, our stalwart VP of Member Services (and document wrangler) to reach out to OMG Members to remind them or request that they send in BCQs.<br class=""><br class="">So here’s a reminder of what they are, why we need them, and what happens if they aren’t filed.<br class=""><br class="">A BCQ (Business Committee Questionnaire) is the OMG’s way of determining that a specification has interest in the industry. Just as the Architecture Board oversees the fidelity of a specification with regards to P&P compliance and its positioning within the OMG ecosystem, and just as the Task Forces and Tech Committees oversee the technical content of a specification, the third leg for determining if a specification is formally adopted by the OMG is the business case.<br class=""><br class="">BCQs are the feedback mechanism to the OMG Board of Directors via the Business Committee that a company (whether OMG Member or not, this is important) has intent to implement a specification in the marketplace.<br class=""><br class="">Without that feedback, if a specification is seen as not generating interest, *it will not be adopted*.<br class=""><br class="">Let me repeat that: without the filing of BCQs, *your specification is put on pause just before the finish line*.<br class=""><br class="">You’ve put in the work, you’ve put in the sweat equity, you’ve collaborated with your colleagues, and you’ve passed the AB... and it just stops? No one wants that.<br class=""><br class="">So please, please, PLEASE, don’t forget the BCQs. Optimally, you should be thinking about them the moment you get the nod from the AB, at the very latest.<br class=""><br class="">You can find the template for the correct BCQ depending on the particulars of your point in the process on our redesigned template page under “Submissions”, “Finalization Task Forces” and “Revised Task Forces": <a href="https://www.omg.org/technology/template_download.htm" class="">https://www.omg.org/technology/template_download.htm</a><br class=""><br class="">Also, since the more BCQs that are filed on a specification the easier this decision becomes for the Business Committee, if you know of non-OMG Members in the industry who are planning on or likely to implement the specification, it is in your best interest to reach out to them and point them at the BCQ.
